Enrichment Options 2025-2026
It’s that time of year where our students get to choose their enrichment options for the upcoming academic year. Enrichment has been a very successful part of our school calendar, with students regularly commenting on it being their favourite time of the week and many parents reflecting on the positive impact it had on their children. Please read the useful information below for everything you need to know about enrichment.
What is enrichment?
Enrichment is an opportunity for students to experience and learn in other areas of academia and leisure that they might not have had the chance to experience before. Students get to take responsibility for their learning by choosing their own lesson from the catalogue of options provided by their teachers. This gives students the opportunity to expand their social circles and find common interests with students and teachers they might not normally interact with.
When is enrichment?
Enrichment lessons are part of the regular school timetable and are not a before/after school club. Each year group will have their enrichment sessions on the following days:
All of Yr 7 | Tuesday, period 5 |
Yr 8 Cook, Newton, Pullen, Strike | Thursday, period 5 |
Yr 8 Tovey, Tudor, Wallace, Whitlock | Tuesday, period 5 |
All of Yr 9 | Thursday period 5 |
How often will students change enrichment?
Students will make 4 choices, in order of preference, from the relevant enrichment catalogue below:
From these options, students will receive 3 of them over the course of the school year. Each enrichment will last for 1 term, approximately 10 lessons, after which they will receive another one of their choices. The fourth option will be used as a reserve in the instance the other selections made are unavailable.
It is important to note that students might not necessarily receive their first choice in the first term and will instead have it at some point over the course of the year. This is because some enrichments prove to be extremely popular, and it won’t always be possible to provide students with their first choice immediately.
All students will be given enrichments they have chosen, so it is important they read the enrichment catalogue carefully to understand what they are choosing. It will unfortunately not be possible to swap enrichments. If students are unsure after reading the catalogue, then they should reach out to the lead teacher for more information so they can make an informed decision.
How does my child choose their enrichment?
At this point you should have gone through the appropriate catalogue with your child and picked out the 4 enrichments they would like to take part in. Once you have done this, please use the survey link you have been emailed to complete their choices, no later than Wednesday 10th September.
If you have any questions about the enrichment programme, please do not hesitate to contact Miss Thorndike via email at e.thorndike@harrisockendon.org.uk
