Work Experience

As part of student’s Careers Education, Information and Guidance in Key Stage 4 and 5, they will take part in work experience for one week. Work Experience is an opportunity for students to experience the workplace and potentially confirm their interest in a future career path. In addition, students learn a wealth of transferable skills, including communication and teamwork.

Top Tips for Finding Work Experience:

  1. Act early. People will want plenty of notice and students will be competing against other schools and students for each position. Contacting potential companies early is beneficial
  2. Be professional. In contacting a potential employer, they will be choosing whether to ‘hire you’ therefore it is important to make sure all communication is formal, polite, and professional
  3. Think broadly. With very specific job or careers in mind this may limit the field or locations of placements. Therefore, think broadly about the job field, for example, if a career as an anaesthetist is interesting, think about any work experience available in healthcare e.g., GP surgery or a dentist
