Design and Technology and Food Studies offer students the ability to explore a range of ideas and techniques. A subject that gives them freedom to create and experiment. Everything around us, everything we use has had someone design it, someone develop it and someone make it. Be part of that team and open up a world of wonder, creativity and progress. Where all ideas are good ideas. Learn to use your confidence and acquire those technical skills to try out and test those ideas, however silly they may seem.
Throughout the courses available at Harris Academy Ockendon, students will develop their own creative and critical thinking skills, they will become independent risk takers who can evaluate progress and develop from self-reflection. Qualifications in Design and Technology or Hospitality and Catering will enable students to continue to level 3 courses at post-16 but will also give valuable life skills. Through learning to cook and having the confidence to use tools and equipment, students will be able to transfer these skills and use and adapt them to live happy, healthy and successful everyday lives.
