Student Leadership
Our Student Leadership Team are empowered to become confident, articulate, and responsible leaders of tomorrow.
They each play a vital role in shaping academy life and ensuring that every student has a voice that is heard and respected. Made up of committed students they represent their peers with pride, take initiative, and work collaboratively with staff to help improve the academy for everyone.
Our Student Principals and Leaders are appointed through an application and interview process. Candidates must demonstrate their leadership potential, present their vision for the school, and show a strong commitment to representing their peers. These students act as ambassadors for the academy, support key events, and help drive forward positive change within our school community.
Student Heads of Year are democratically elected by their year group peers. This process encourages student voice and participation in school life while promoting the values of respect, responsibility, and integrity. Heads of Year serve as a vital link between the student body and staff, raising important issues, celebrating achievements, and promoting inclusion across all aspects of academy life.
Meet our Student Leadership Team
Studying at Harris Academy Ockendon has given me the opportunity to gain not only knowledge but also lifelong skills. I’ve been fortunate to learn from passionate and dedicated teachers whose teaching methods have helped me realise and embrace my full potential. Their love for their subjects and the strong balance between independence and support, has made learning enjoyable.
I am currently studying A-level English Literature, Biology and Psychology because I am looking to pursue a career in speech and language therapy.
I consider myself a highly creative individual who believes there are no limits to dreams or goals. At the heart of everything I do is the belief in being kind and uplifting towards others. This is reflected in my commitment to tutoring younger students across the academy. I have a deep passion for art, I love painting and find inspiration when exploring different galleries.
I don’t believe I’ve reached the end of my creative journey or my ability to support those around me. I’m always reminded of the phrase, “our work is never over,” which motivates me to keep growing and continue to craft my own identity.
Being Student Principal is something I’m incredibly proud of. It allows me to represent and advocate for all students at Harris Academy Ockendon while working alongside the wider school leadership team to make a positive difference in bridging the relationship between students and teachers.
As a proud member of Harris Academy Ockendon Sixth Form, I am delighted to have been offered the role of Student Vice Principal. My particular role will involve the overseeing and management of learning and teaching within the student body, where I will work arduously to help nurture and maintain the remarkable standards this school upholds.
Having joined the HAOC community at the end of Year 10, a brilliant network of teachers, students and staff members inspired my love of academia, allowing me to attain and achieve results that truly reflected my potential, but even more so my passion for learning. As a member of the Student Leadership Team, this is precisely the environment and ethos I will help foster, so each individual at the Academy can thrive.
I am currently studying History, English and Sociology, three subjects that are helping me build a skillset that will translate into a career in the legal field, where I hope to make a positive difference within our justice system. After sixth form, I will go on to read law at university.
Outside of the school setting, I tutor children in English with the Team Up organisation, I am a member of the Lucy Cavendish Cambridge Programme, I enjoy reading, travel, and playing basketball.
I look forward to fulfilling my role as Student Vice Principal and engaging with students across our Academy to help make a positive impact to the day-to-day school experiences of us all, pushing this school even further in the direction of success.
I joined HAOC at Sixth Form, where I study Psychology, Maths and Economics. I chose Maths due to it being one of my favourite subjects in secondary school, and I chose economics due to the great information you learn about the real world. Finally, I chose Psychology due to wanting to pursue a career in Psychology in the future, and being genuinely interested in the subject.
I am so grateful and excited to be Student Vice Principal of HAOC and the lead of the Student Voice in the main school. I will not only pay close attention to the voices of the sixth form, but also of the lower year groups. I am looking forward to working alongside the rest of the Student Parliament and becoming a team with them. I have always been passionate about helping out and representing wherever I am, and this position allows me to do that.
I am pleased to be a part of HAOC Sixth Form as it is always looking for ways to connect with students and support those that need it. The staff have the students’ best interests at heart, which is always admirable to see.
Here I have experienced many opportunities, for example, tutoring Year 9 students, and visiting UCL, one of the top universities in the country.
HAOC Sixth Form is a wonderful environment, and a place that pushes you. I am grateful to be a part of it.
I am a proud member of the Student Leadership Team at Harris Academy Ockendon.
I am currently studying A-Level Business, Psychology, and Sociology, subjects that provide me with a greater understanding of leadership, human behaviour, and factors that shape our communities. With a passion for project management, I aspire to lead with empathy, strategy, and impact in my future roles.
As the Mental Health & Wellbeing Lead, my role is to promote student wellbeing and create a supportive environment where everyone feels heard and valued. I am dedicated to encouraging open conversations, developing student-led initiatives, and ensuring that mental health remains a priority within our sixth form culture.
I am looking forward to developing initiatives that create a lasting impact, collaborate with fellow student leaders, and help shape an inclusive, positive environment where students feel empowered. Sixth form is a period of personal and academic growth, and I look forward to nurturing an atmosphere where mental wellbeing is not just supported but celebrated.
HAOC Sixth Form is a place where leadership is encouraged, creativity is valued, and student voices truly matter. The teachers are supportive, the students look out for each other, and there’s a genuine focus on mental health and wellbeing. I am incredibly proud to be part of a sixth form that prioritises growth, positivity, and student-driven change, and I can't wait to contribute to its ongoing success!
I am both honoured and privileged to be granted a role on the Student Leadership Team as Leader of Enrichment at Harris Academy Ockendon. I have been so proud to be a part of this school since 2019 and to have seen its development through the years.
In my free time I play a variety of sports such as Darts, Football and Golf which allows me to destress and relax accompanied by my peers.
Currently, I am studying History, English and Business Studies. History in particular I enjoy the most; I find it so very interesting as the stories taught are often funny, and the subject brilliantly explained and taught by Mr Munday and Miss Carman who reveal all the niche details of events.
When I eventually leave HAOC I strongly intend to study Law at University as I have aspirations to become a Lawyer in the future. I am so very glad that the Head of Sixth Form provides so much support, guidance and motivation in order to help me achieve my desired future.
I am extremely enthusiastic and looking forward to being Leader of Enrichment. I can’t wait to make the Academy even more fun and engaging for all students.
I am really excited to be part of the school leadership team this year.
My role is all about events. I will be helping plan and organise things such as school celebrations, fundraisers, and assemblies. Basically, any event that brings people together.
I will make sure everything runs smoothly, and that people enjoy being there. It’s a mix of creativity, teamwork, and a lot of behind-the-scenes work.
I’m really looking forward to bringing new ideas to life and creating events that people will remember. I want to help make this year fun and meaningful, and I’m excited to work with others, try new things, and hopefully surprise people with what we come up with.
I am so proud to be part of a school that supports student voice and leadership. Being trusted with this role means a lot to me, and I’m happy to be part of a community where everyone gets a chance to contribute, grow, and be heard.
Plus, it just feels good to help make things happen and see people enjoy them.
Meet our Student Heads of Year
Jaylan Boateng

I'm truly honoured to be given the opportunity to share the ideas of my year group with the leadership team of HAOC, an opportunity I do not take lightly.
I would like to express deep gratitude for my amazing family, who inspire me every day and motivate me to work hard and aim higher.
Throughout my school years, I’ve discovered a real passion for maths and a deep appreciation for history and science, subjects that challenge me and help me grow. Outside of school I enjoy horse riding and always look forward to my riding lessons, an activity that teaches me focus, patience, and confidence. I have always embraced the importance of teamwork, leadership, and supporting others. This has grown deeper since joining HAOC. These values shape who I am both in and out of school. I believe in spreading positivity, lifting others up, and creating an environment where everyone feels heard and valued.
Most importantly, listening to your ideas, representing your voices, and making a positive difference in our school community will always be my mission as a proud member of the Student Parliament. I am excited for what the future holds on this journey because I believe it is bright.

I’m already loving this school and am so grateful to be taught by such lovely teachers who always go above and beyond to help me to be the best version of myself. I’m honoured to be a part of student parliament so I can make sure every student has the same wonderful experience at HAOC that I am having.
I consider myself to be a caring, confident and lovely individual; respectfulness and empathy are really important to me, so I always approach each situation with these values in mind.
I am confident in who I am and the things that I do, it means a lot to me that I am now in a position where I can represent Year 7 and make things even better for everyone.

I’m excited to be part of the School Parliament for Yr 8. I love anything to do with sports, and I believe sport should be for everyone not just the people who are already good at it. There’s a sport out there for everyone and I want to help you find the one you love!
One of my goals is to make it easier for people to get involved. Sometimes it feels like you don’t know what’s on or how to join in and I want to change that. I’ll work hard to make things clearer and make sure there’s something for everyone, whether you’re into football, dance, athletics or just want to try something new. Sport isn’t just about winning it’s about having fun, building confidence, keeping fit and being part of a team.
You can count on me to listen and try to help. If you’ve got ideas or need support, I’m here. I want to make things better and make sure everyone feels included. Outside of school I love dance and drama, having these hobbies give me confidence.
I am passionate and reliable and ready to make a difference.
Hadley Williams

I’m really excited to be joining Student Parliament this year, and I can’t wait to see what opportunities lie ahead. My goal is to help make school a place where everyone feels happy and excited to come in each day.
I’d love to encourage more people to get involved in sports, whether it’s ping pong, football, running, or anything else they enjoy. One of my ideas is to introduce more after-school clubs, especially since so many students love being active and trying new things.
I’m looking forward to helping make our school an even better place!
Aykel Bhrane

I’m proud to be a student at Harris Academy Ockendon, and to be part of the Student Parliament because I enjoy listening to others and helping represent student ideas. I’m passionate about teamwork, leadership, and making positive changes within our school community.
Outside of lessons, I enjoy sports, especially football, and getting involved in school life.
I’m excited to work with other students and staff to help make our school an even better place for everyone.
Armina Fazlic

I am excited to be chosen as representative for Yr 9. I grew up in South Ockendon and have amazing parents who always help me achieve my goals and push me to work hard. I learnt from them to always take responsibility, to help others and to be kind.
I am someone who loves creativity, I love to sing, get lost in a good book or sketch something I like. What also matters a lot to me is being someone people can talk to and trust.
I hope that I can make any necessary changes to the school so that every student feels safe, included and happy.
Oluwajubelosimi Awosokanre

Being elected as Yr 10 student voice is such an honour, so I aim to extend my gratitude by serving this school and our wider Harris community.
My goal is to capitalise on the amazing cultures this academy has the privilege of possessing by celebrating the unity of various ethnic backgrounds while highlighting how important it is to appreciate where we all come from.
It’s my greatest priority to establish an environment where everyone feels welcome and I ensure you that I will use my voice to meet your needs.
Christian Longalong

I am proud to be serving as part of our school parliament this year, representing Year 10. I’m looking forward to getting involved because I have a lot of ambition and ideas that I hope can bring positive change to our school.
Being part of the student parliament means more to me than simply holding a title. Leadership, to me, is a privilege, and I genuinely feel honoured to be in a position where I can put words into action. My aim is to represent my peers fairly and to help give students more of what they want, as well as what I believe could benefit them in the long run.
Creativity is an important part of everyone’s life, and I believe it is one of the strongest engines of success. That’s why I want to focus on improving the overall atmosphere of the school. This includes putting more emphasis on music and culture, areas that I feel are undervalued, despite being incredibly meaningful to many students. Alongside this, I’d like to explore ways to bring more sports opportunities into the school beyond the traditional ones like football and netball.
I’m excited to work with both staff and students to develop these ideas and hopefully bring some of them to life.
