Scholastic Book Fair; Thursday 27th November 5.30-6.30pm
What is the Scholastic book fair?
A Scholastic Book Fair is a pop-up celebration of reading that puts the very best books directly into your child’s hands, all while raising rewards for our school to spend on free books and essential resources. The book fair supplies us with over 200 of the newest and best books from over 60 publishers, including exclusive titles that you won’t see in shops or at any other Fairs. Also, you as parents and carers, will have access to amazing discounts and prices from just £2.99! We will accept contactless payment on the evening, unfortunately no cash can be taken at the event.
What is our vision and philosophy towards reading?
At HAOC our vision is to foster a culture of reading across the school in which students read ambitious and diverse texts for pleasure, whilst gaining cultural capital. We know that according to Renaissance UK’s biggest-ever literacy study of more than 1 million children across hundreds of schools from all different demographics, exam results improved massively where Guided Reading was routinely practiced. The more our students read, the more able they are to decode meaning, as well as enhance their oracy skills by being able to talk more confidently about great literature.
What is the purpose of the book fair evening?
We understand that parents and carers care deeply about their children’s education and want them to be successful. However, not everyone feels completely confident in supporting their children to read at home. For example, families may find the work/home balance difficult so reading isn’t always prioritised, parents/carers may not be confident readers themselves or may have a learning barrier such as dyslexia, or they may be unsure how to select appropriate books for their child.
At this event we will provide you with information, guidance and practical tips to help solve many of these problems and demonstrate the positive impact that creating the right reading habits within the home can have, not only on your children’s reading and academic progress, but their wider wellbeing too.
