Hot Weather - School Adjustments
You may have heard on the news that the government’s UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an amber and red heat-health alert for some areas of the UK with temperatures expected to reach 38’.
Therefore, in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our school community we will be making some adjustments to the school day and expectations during this period.
Uniform for Yrs 7-10
For the remainder of this week, Tuesday 23rd to Friday 26th June, students in Yrs 7-10 are welcome to attend school wearing either their HAOC PE kit, or full HAOC school uniform. If your child choses to wear their PE kit, they must wear:
- Grey HAOC polo
- Black shorts (no cycling shorts)
- Black socks
- Trainers
Students are not permitted to wear any of their own branded sportswear and must follow the guidance above. Any students that do not follow this guidance will be sent home to change.
Dress-Code for Sixth Formers
For sixth form students, relaxed business wear is permitted for the remainder of this week, Tuesday 23rd to Friday 26th June. The following guidelines indicate what is acceptable relaxed business wear;
- Tailored shorts
- Short sleeved shirts or polo-shirts
- No tie
- Shoulders should be covered, no tank tops, vests or crop-tops
- No flip-flops or open-toed shoes
Any sixth form students that do not follow this guidance will be sent home to change.
Early Finish
There will be a slightly earlier finish on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June, with students being dismissed at 2.15pm.
Should any families have child-care issues resulting from this earlier finish, the school will remain open until 3.30pm if you wish your child to remain on-site for supervised private study. If this is the case, please let Miss Dodge know via email at s.dodge@harrisockendon.org.uk.
Yr 10 and Yr 12 PPEs
Due to the early finish on Wednesday and Thursday, Yr 10 and Yr 12 PPEs scheduled for the afternoon on both days will be rescheduled to the following week, commencing 29th June. Morning exams will run as normal. An amended timetable for these rescheduled exams will be shared with families on Friday.
Reminder of existing guidance
- Students should bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.
- Please ensure sunscreen is applied before leaving home.
- A sun hat is advised if students wish to use the playground at break and lunchtimes. This should be black or white with no large logos or slogans
- Wearing jumpers is not advised in the current weather.
Please be assured we will be closely monitoring the situation, and if any further adjustments are required we will let families know as soon as possible. Please keep checking for communication via email and on the school website.
Thank you for your continued support.
