George McMillan

Acting Assistant Director

Mr McMillan is Acting Assistant Director for the East Quadrant of Harris Federation which includes Harris Chafford Hundred, Harris Falconwood, Harris Greenwich, Harris Rainham, Harris Riverside and Harris Ockendon.  Originally from Glasgow, he graduated from Aberdeen University with an MA(hons) in English Literature, and then from Edinburgh University with a PGCE and a burning desire to teach.  Mr McMillan taught English for five years at a secondary school in Edinburgh serving one of the most deprived areas in Scotland, latterly having a whole school remit in charge of promoting positive behaviour.  Shortly after moving to London in 2006 he joined the Senior Team at Harris Chafford Hundred and was part of their journey from ‘Requires Improvement’ to Outstanding in every area.  He has been a headteacher since 2011, an Executive Headteacher since 2019, and was appointed to Acting Assistant Director in 2025.

Mr McMillan is a lead facilitator for the National Institute of Teaching and trains hundreds of senior leaders across the country each year.  As a National Leader of Education he also mentors a number of headteachers and helps support underperforming schools, helping them to identify and address areas in need of improvement.
