Happy Vaisakhi to all celebrating. Vaisakhi not only symbolises the harvest festival but also the birth of the Khalsa Panth. It marks a pivotal moment in Sikh history when Guru Gobind Singh Ji founded the Khalsa, instilling principles of courage, equality, and selfless service. pic.twitter.com/oN2bgMrx3B

Fire Evacuation

If there is a suspected fire, the fire alarm system will be activated. The Academy will be evacuated to the lawn at the front of the Academy. All personnel will leave to this area via the nearest fire exit.  Fire drills will be held each term.

Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPS) have been put in place to ensure the safety of wheelchair users and those with specific mobility issues (such as a broken leg) during a fire alarm. These are documented in full in the Health and Safety policy.

Fire alarmFire Alarms

The evacuation alarm is a continuous sound. If a loud noise sounds, staff must assume it is a fire alarm. The signal is a continuous ring.

Abuse of the alarm system is to be considered as a serious offence and such incidents will be dealt with in a serious manner.

Fire extinguisherFire Extinguishers

Fire extinguishers are provided throughout the Academy. These should only be used by trained staff. Extinguishers will not be used if the safety of a member of staff is threatened or by doing so would threaten the safety of others. Extinguishers in workshops are of a suitable type for the potential risk of fire, e.g. CO2 for electrical.

Fire doorFire Doors

The Academy and Sixth Form are fitted with adequate fire-resistant doors. They are designed to slow down the spread of fire and smoke throughout the building. All fire doors should never be propped or tied open or obstructed.

Fire exitFire Exits

Fire Exits are clearly marked throughout the Academy and Sixth Form. They must never be blocked, locked, or used for any kind of storage. Exit for everyone should always be via the nearest fire exit.

Emergency Evacuation Procedures

Students should:

  • Walk safely out of the nearest fire exit
  • Line up at the designated places at the front of the Academy as directed by members of staff
  • Stand on the triangles on the grass in total silence
  • Answer clearly to the register
  • When entering back into the academy, follow the one-way system
